We've hit the 30's

And I don't mean my and Mike's age. Baby Vail's expected d-day is 38 days away. Holy cow! This pregnancy has flown by. It's crazy! We had 2 really nice showers in the last week. I'll try to get pics up here as soon as I can. Many, many thanks to everyone's overwhelming generosity! Mike and I are so tremendously humbled by the love and support we've received from our friends and family. Thank you all so much!

Landscaping 2009

The landscaping project is underway. This weekend we got lots of shrubs and perrenials in the ground, ferns are up, first planter is done (on the staircase:) and everything looks great! I can't wait until everything fills in. Backyard and planting trees are next on the list.

Dear Mr./Mrs. Harris Teeter

If you are pregnant, particularly those who are having a girl and have a wicked sweet tooth, THE place to be this week is Harris Teeter. This week’s specials include so many sweets that they can be viewed as either a curse or a dream come true. Ben and Jerry’s 3 for $10, Harris Teeter cookies only $2.97 (found in the bakery section and if you have not had these yet, you HAVE to try them. Trust me.), Keebler Fudge Shoppe Cookies 2/$5, along with the regular delicious snacks such as sheet cakes (my own obsession – I could put a serious dent in a Harris Teeter sheet cake. It doesn’t matter if it says “Happy Birthday” on it and it’s not my birthday. I'm not prejudice.), angel food cakes buy-one-get-one-free, and much more.

Did I buy all of this? No. But I’ll admit, I wanted too. I’ve been going to the Dr. on a bi-weekly schedule since 22 weeks – courtesy of my super awesome job chock-full of stress, long hours and sleepless nights. I will say though, one perk of said stressful job is these frequent Dr. visits have turned into pseudo weigh-in sessions at Weight Watchers.

But, Harris Teeter – seriously, what are you doing to me this week?? I REALLY wanted to buy all of those delicious snacks and eat every one of them!

Here’s my letter to the President of Harris Teeter:

Dear Mr./Mrs. Harris Teeter,

I love your stores. I really do. I’ve been a loyal fan of Harris Teeter since moving to the state nearly 12 years ago.

But now I’m pregnant and your weekly specials are working very hard at destroying my “you’ll only gain 25-30 lbs” plan the Dr. has me on.

So let’s make a deal. I’m due on June 6. Do you think it would be a problem to keep the “buy-one-get-one” sweet sales off of the shelves for just 7 more weeks? I promise to remain a loyal customer but I just need a break from the temptations your lovely stores are putting me through week after week.

I realize this is more a “me” issue vs. a “you” issue but let’s work together here. I’m about to start spending A LOT more money with you via diapers, wipes, baby food, and I promise to buy all of my formula from you if this breast feeding thing doesn’t work out.

So for now, can we lay low on the sweet sales? I promise to pull myself together by early June. Then you can resume all of your sweet specials immediately following the delivery of Baby Vail. What do you say? Deal?

Signed, Nearly new mom with a delicious slice of Harris Teeter sheet cake in her hands

The sleep threat

"Sleep now because you'll never sleep again." "Better make sure you get a good night's rest now because once the baby comes..." "I hope you're ok with sleepless nights." Sleep.

Looks like our days of sleep are numbered (just check out the count down to the right). Thus, my next analysis of pre-baby advice during the remaining days of baby’s "snuggle womb time".

We've had literally everyone tell us all of the above statements including some sort of combination of them. What's interesting to me is that people say it to us like we have no idea what we're getting into. Or do we?? Some come with a cackle of, "Ha, you'll now be miserable just like me."

Has the idea of having sleepless nights never crossed our minds? (for the record, it has) Are we not prepared for crazy states of sleepless delirium? Are you ever really prepared? And does “getting a good night’s rest now” really matter? Can we stock pile away sleep? Yawn.

Welcome to the "sleepless nights, I'm miserable, but so fulfilled and never been more in love" parent club. So, here’s to late night TV, confused pets who think it’s time to eat, a screaming baby and the light of the refrigerator illuminating the kitchen while I get snacks. I’ll call all of you that gave me this great advice say around 2, maybe 3am. Sound good?

Dapple

I got to work today to find this fantastic present courtesy of Resound Marketing and their client Dapple who makes earth-friendly cleaning products, perfect for the arrival of a new baby. What a great gift! Included was everything from toy cleaning wipes, to baby bottle dish soap, to baby safe dish detergent and more! The Vail residence is ready to start full-blown nesting and get this place in tip-top shape, nice and clean and safe for the baby. I’ve heard rave reviews about these products so I can’t wait to give them a whirl.

Thanks Ilana, Kevin and Dave! We really appreciate you thinking of us!

32 weeks

It seems like one or both of the pets end up in these weekly prego pics. Can you see who joined me this time?

Even pregnant chics have fun at bachelorette parties

This weekend was Caren’s bachelorette party in Charleston. We had a super time! Lots of great gossip, delicious meals and beautiful weather.

There were 5 of us all together and surprisingly enough, I wasn’t the only prego girl. Perfect! Sara is also pregnant. She’s 2 weeks further along than I am. And I’m here to say, Sara and I were not held back by our “babies-on-board” status and instead whooped it up with the rest of them!

We were up late both nights. Up early both days. Lots of walking, shopping, eating, and then of course, watching others enjoy tasty libations. The only positive part of not being able to enjoy cocktails with the girls during "girls weekend" is I didn’t have to use a 'special straw' as supplied by Farrell. Thanks Kel! Oh, and it was also quite excellent that I was not hungover either morning. That is a HUGE pregnancy perk.

But in the essence of full disclosure, I will say my ankles were looking pretty sweet come Sunday. And in addition to my water retention, I was fast asleep both Sunday and Monday nights by 7:30pm. LOL! Here are a few pics from the weekend.

Pedis and Pregnancy

Sometimes I think this pregnancy is one science experiment after another.

Today I went for a much needed pedicure in preparation for “girl’s weekend” in Charleston and I literally almost passed out in the chair – twice! Why? Who knows.

The hot water that my feet were soaking in sent me right into overdrive and before I knew it, I was light headed and a sweaty mess. I pulled myself together – got my feet out of the water and tried to subtly wipe away my head and the back of my neck before any of the other pedi patrons noticed me fussing. Deep breaths. Rolled up sleeves. Phew. Ok, back to the March issue of Glamour.

Then about 5 minutes later…. whammy, I start feeling faint again. Is this what happens? I’ve heard of so many women getting pedis while pregnant, especially the week or two before they go into labor, and never any problems. I’m about 9 ½ weeks away so it never dawned on me that I’d have such a crazy reaction.

Anyway, I’m going to have to figure this one out because pedi season is upon us and I’m having a summer baby. They’ll be at least 3 more pedis to be had before the baby arrives! Maybe next time I can ask to sit next to the fan, or better yet, maybe she can do my toes outside. (I'm sure stranger requests have come in.) Bottom line, pedis and pregnancy need to go together. Unlike pregnancy and passwords, pregnancy and pedis need to go together!
