Today's race wasn't our best feeling but it was our best time so we can't complain. The wind was a little tricky - a new weather element we haven't raced with yet - and the rolling hills were tough. Also, the Monkey fussed from Mile 2 all the way until the finish line. Agh. So with her struggling and me struggling, we were quite the pair out there. Surprisingly though (really, I couldn't believe it) we crossed the finish line in 22:10 - 7:08/mile, 5 seconds per mile faster than the last race. We didn't reach my goal of "get in the 21s" but I'm pleased with this finish considering how junky we both were.
Next race - the Yiasou Greek Fest on 8/28 - which has been deemed the flattest - and thus fastest 5K - course in Charlotte. I will definitely set the goal of "get in the 21s" for that race. And that time, we'll get it! (btw - no bands along the course today as we hoped. but kudos to the lady who screamed....."that girl has the best seat in the house!" to the Monkey has we went running past. that made me laugh mid-run. perfect timing for it too.)
